Using HP Smart App (Wi-Fi or Wireless Direct)

Printing from your mobile phone (using mobile data) to an HP printer is straightforward. Here's how to do it:

Method 1: Using HP Smart App (Wi-Fi or Wireless Direct)

  1. Download the HP Smart App

  2. Connect Printer to Wi-Fi or Use Wireless Direct

    • If your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, ensure your phone is on the same network.

    • If no Wi-Fi is available, enable HP Wireless Direct on your printer (check printer settings).

    • Connect your phone to the printer's Direct Wi-Fi signal (found in printer settings).

  3. Print via Mobile Data (If No Wi-Fi Available)

    • If you're using mobile data, you can:

      • Email Print: Send the document to your printer’s email (if supported).

      • Cloud Print: Upload files to Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox, then print via HP Smart App.

      • USB OTG (Android Only): Use a USB OTG cable to connect your phone directly to the printer.

Method 2: Using HP ePrint (If Printer Supports It)

  1. Enable HP ePrint in your printer’s settings.

  2. Note the printer’s email address (e.g., yourprinter@hpeprint.com).

  3. From your phone, email the document to this address (works on mobile data).

Method 3: Google Cloud Print (If Available)

  1. Set up Google Cloud Print via a computer first.

  2. Use Chrome on your phone to print via Cloud Print (even on mobile data).

Troubleshooting

  • No Wi-Fi? Use Wireless Direct or USB OTG.

  • Printer Offline? Restart printer and reconnect.

  • Mobile Data Not Working? Try email/cloud print methods.

If you're trying to print a PDF file from your phone via USB but only photos are showing, here’s how to fix it and print properly:

Method 1: Using USB OTG (Android Only)

  1. Check USB OTG Support

    • Ensure your Android phone supports USB OTG (most modern phones do).

    • Enable OTG in phone settings (varies by brand).

  2. Connect Printer via USB

    • Use a USB OTG cable (Type-C/micro-USB to USB-A).

    • Plug the printer’s USB cable into your phone.

  3. Open the PDF File

    • Use a file manager (like Files by Google or Solid Explorer).

    • Locate your PDF and tap "Print" (may require a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat).

  4. Select Printer

    • If prompted, choose HP Printer (ensure drivers are installed).

Method 2: Using HP Smart App (If Available)

  1. Open HP Smart App → Tap "Print".

  2. Select "Documents" (not just photos).

  3. Choose your PDF from Google Drive, Files, or Email.

Why Only Photos Show Up?

  • Some phones default to showing only images when printing via USB.

  • Solution:

    • Open the PDF in a PDF reader app (like Adobe Acrobat).

    • Tap Share → Print → Select HP Printer.

Alternative: Use a Computer

If USB printing fails:

  1. Transfer the PDF to a laptop/PC.

  2. Connect the printer via USB and print normally.
